Responsibilities

  • Complete initial training process and subsequent interviews, as necessary.
  • Listen to distressed callers - support and refer, according to Distress Centre Niagara policies and procedures.
  • Provide a friendly and compassionate ear to those callers who require someone to "just listen".
  • Help callers identify and define for themselves the problem areas that are causing difficulty.
  • Stay objective and focused on the callers' situation so that the caller is able to release distressing emotions.
  • Participation in skill development seminars & workshops provided by Distress Centre on topics relevant to volunteer crisis workers.
